Aeration process is indispensable in any wastewater treatment plant, regardless of the type. Organic and inorganic pollutants in wastewater are purified by the digestion of micro organisms. Since this digestion is a natural process, the air requirement is inevitable.
Equipments that provide this air support to waste water are aerators. The most used types are floating barrel aerators, blower-diffuser systems and mixer jet aerators.
Floating Buoy Aerators: The aerator floats over a bridge or buoy and gives air to the water. The occlusion time is quite long. High oxygen transfer efficiency is aimed by providing air flow from the middle part of the water.
Blower-Diffuser Systems: There are small pores on the bottom of the waste water tank, with diameters varying according to the waste water character. The air flow provided from the blower provides the oxygen demand of the water through these diffusers.
Mixer Jet Aerators: It is the type generally used in sludge units. Both mixing and aeration of the sludge is ensured by means of a mixer. Mixer blades are generally made of stainless steel.
